Therapy for Families, Couples & Individuals

As a therapist I strive to provide you with a safe and confidential counseling environment to talk about and explore issues. You and I will work together to set and work toward your goals.

I believe that by exploring the patterns you experience and the systems in place in your life (e.g., the people you have in your life and the relationships you have with them), you will gain insight. And by raising your awareness you can make changes to improve your life.

We can work together to help you gain a better understanding of your experiences and to give you the tools to improve your relationships.

Experience

Individual & Group Counseling.  I have worked with individual children, adolescents and their families as well as adult clients. I have facilitated groups for children to improve their social skills and for adults recovering from drug and alcohol abuse and/or dependence.  I am also currently working at Kaiser Hospital facilitating groups for patients in the Medical Weight Management Program.

Counseling Topics. Some of my clients sought counseling for issues with alcohol and other drugs and life style choices, others were interested in receiving support with work transitions, relationship issues, changes in their health status, parenting difficulties, and dealing with grief and loss.  I have extensive experience and training in assisting survivors of sexual assault.  My work with children was often to address issues related to behavior and attitude, improve peer and family relationships, and school attendance.

Additional Experience

Understanding High Tech. SGI (Silicon Graphics, Inc.) Mountain View, CA.  I have six years of experience working in high tech in various roles but most interesting to me was that of a Software Release Manager. In this position I facilitated the release of technical products by communicating a schedule and coordinating engineering, technical writing, marketing, purchasing, and manufacturing aspects of the projects.

Assisting Unemployed. Occupational Training Institute, De Anza College, Cupertino, CA. While working OTI I assisted unemployed individuals. Together, we set goals for re-employment and determined which courses they would need to take to update their skills to achieve those goals. Additional services I provided included coaching clients to improve their interviewing skills, updating their resumes, and helping them discover the "hidden job market."

Advocating for Survivors.  YWCA of Santa Clara Valley, San Jose, CA.  As part of Assault Prevention and Intervention Services I staffed the 24-hour crisis line (408-287-3000), escorted survivors of sexual assault through the evidence collecting process, and provided community education about and counseling for sexual assault and recovery. Through the Child Abuse Prevention Program I taught school-aged children how to protect themselves from various types of abuse.  Additionally, as support to the Parenting Education Program I was exposed to program materials based on Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) techniques.
